Are you a slacker?

Joshua 18: 1-3, “…And the land was subdued before them. And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes, which had not yet received their inheritance. And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go possess the land, which the Lord God of your fathers hath given you?”

There are many times in our life God gives us a promise and we are afraid or too lazy to claim it. We make all sorts of excuses and complain, instead of us going forward and fight for the promise that the Lord has given to us.

Promise come in different ways, some almost fall into your lap, but then there are some you have to fight hard for. The bad part about life is that we get a lot of promises that we have to fight hard for. I don’t know about you but I have to fight hard for almost everything I want in live. Nothing I have came easy. Sometimes I wonder why I have to fight so hard for things that are already mine. If the Lord said it is mine, why do I have to fight for? Why can’t I just have it?

The Lord told me to read the book of Joshua during the time when I was questioning Him about couple promises in my life that he told me was mine. I started to question few of my promises when they seemed almost impossible to be fulfilled or miles away. I wanted to know if they were still going to come to past and if there is anything I am not doing to claim my promise.

While reading the book of Joshua I saw the children of Israel fighting for their promise through out the whole book. They went up against the enemies and won because they believed in their promise and they were following the will of the Lord. Whenever they would go against the will of the Lord, they would lose the battle. That went to show me that when I am going after a promise that the Lord has spoken into my life, I should always follow His instructions. Even if what I am doing seem innocent, I should always make sure it lines up with the instructions of the Lord.

Then when I got to chapter 18 of the book, there were seven tribes that did not received their inheritance yet. Then Joshua called them ‘slackers.’ He called them that because they was just sitting back, looking at their inheritance but did not want to go and fight for it. Joshua had to instruct them to go fight for their land. Sometimes that is all we need is someone to encourage us to fight on for our promise. We need to get of our comfort zone and get rid of the enemy in our land. The enemy is dwelling in our inheritance and we need to drive them out or slay them. We should not sit back and allow the enemy to take control of the promises the Lord have given us. It is ours. We need to go and fight for it. They may look stronger and bigger but with the Lord on our side, we will win.

My encouragement for you today is not to give up on the promises of God. Check yourself; make sure you are not sitting around and allowing the devil to take control of the promise. It is yours; you have the right to fight for it. But before you can do any of that you have to claim it in the spirit. If you don’t believe that the promise is for you, then you are almost calling the Lord a liar. If he said it is yours, who are you to tell him something else.

Go forth and claim your inheritance. Claim your promise that the Lord has given. Don’t let anyone or anything stop you from receiving what is rightfully yours.
