In the beginning God said let there be and there was. God’s words are powerful enough to bring non-existing into existence. Wow! If that doesn’t blow you away, I don’t know what could. What would be your reaction if someone comes to your house one day and you didn’t have dinner and they spoke the word and dinner appeared on the table? I don’t know about you but I would want to be best friends with that person.
Jesus (who was God manifested in the flesh) came to earth and also had power in the words that he spoke. I was reading the book of Matthew for my devotion and there were many times when Jesus spoke and people were healed. Below are few verses in Matthew that shows Jesus healing people with his words.
After Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist he went up into the mountains for 40 days and night. While he was in the mountains Satan came to temp him. Satan tried to temp him in many ways but Jesus quoted the scriptures to shut the devil up. When Satan asked Jesus to bow down and worship him Jesus ran him away with the word. “Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and him only shalt thou serve. (Matthew 4:10)” This is why it is very important that we study the word of God, it will be our defense against the enemy when he comes to temp us.
There was even a centurion man that believed in the power of Jesus words and asked him to just speak and his servant shall be healed. Matthew 8:8, “The Centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.” Even Jesus was impressed by his level of faith. How many of us can go to Jesus like that? How many of us can go to Jesus like that to just speak the word for our healing? That is the problem today many of us don’t believe in the power of Jesus. We sometimes doubt that he can really heal or deliver us from our situation. We tend to put a limit on his ability. Who are we to limit Him? He has no limitation.
The discipline that was in the boat when Jesus calmed the seas didn’t have enough faith to believe that Jesus could have stopped the storm. They thought they were going to perish. In Matthew 8: 26, “And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, o ye of little faith? Then he arose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and they was a great calm.” After Jesus calmed the sea, that was when they were amazed and asked, “What manner of man is this that even the winds and waves obey him?”
There was also another time when Jesus cast out demons from a man that had many demons within him. In Matthew 8: 32, “And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and behold the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.”
When Jesus speaks nothing can stop it, it must come to pass. When Jesus speaks people are healed, things come into existence, demons flee, Satan flee, and people are raised from the dead. What a mighty God we serve!
I once heard a joke that said “When Jesus speaks everything listens and obey but humans.” That is very interesting and there is some truth to it. There are some people that will hear the voice of Jesus and follow. Then there are others who hear the voice of Jesus and ignore it. When Jesus was choosing his disciplines, his just told them to follow me and they left what they were doing to follow him. Matthew 9:9, "And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man named, Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me, and he arose and followed him.” That is the way we ought to be for the Lord. When the Lord commands us to go or do something we should obey. We shouldn’t make excuses or think of every reason in the world not to obey his voice.
Don’t allow yourself to fall into the category of people who don’t know the voice of God or don’t want to listen to the voice of God. We should always recognize when our master speaks and follow his commandments. Think about it!
Then the amazing thing is that the same Spirit of God lives in us when we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. That Spirit gives us power to cast out demons, to heal, to do many wonderful things. Of course we are not the ones doing anything but the Spirit of God that lives within us. He is the one healing, casting our demons and delivering – He just uses our body to do the work. Therefore, take no glory in the things you do for the Lord – all glory belongs to Him.
I pray that you received something from this entry today, even if it was one word that touched your heart. Continue to study the word of God and listen to his voice as he speaks to you. God can speak to us through others, through the Bible, through another book, through a song, through a picture/painting, and in so many other ways. We just have to recognize his voice when he speaks.

Matthew 9:2, “And behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.”
