It was more than nails that kept Jesus to the cross.....

This week I was speaking to a friend of mine, we were speaking about the Lord and he mentioned “It was more than nails that kept Jesus to the cross” that stuck with me. It is completely true. It wasn’t just the nails that kept Jesus on the cross because he was God and had the power to come down but because he LOVED us and wanted to bridge the gap between God and men he remained on the cross. There is a song that says, “He could have called ten thousand angels to destroy the world and set him free….” But I am so glad he didn’t and has redeemed us from sin. THANK YOU JESUS!

Now it is up to us to take advantage of the opportunity. We still have a personal choice to accept Jesus into our lives or to reject him and remain in the life of sin. But the choice we make today will determine where we spend eternity.

The things of this world might seem dazzling and satisfying but it will only be temporal. When you die, all of that material gain will remain here on earth. You cannot take it with you. My grandmother use to say, “You cannot bring a U-Haul with all your things with you when you die. You will leave this world with nothing.” Only the things you do for Christ will last. Matthew 6:19-21 states, “Lay not for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and were thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth or rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. For where your treasurer is, there will your heart be also. (KJV)”

Think about the reasons why Jesus died on the cross. We don’t want to be the one screaming “Crucify him!” Many times when you reject Jesus you are saying the same thing with your actions.

Reasons Why Jesus Died on the Cross:

1) Remove the need for a mediator, we can speak to God our selves
2) Redemption
3) To prove that he was able to raise himself from the dead
4) Remove the need for animal sacrifice – he was the ultimate sacrifice for us all

There are so many things that could be added to that list. If you have any please share. God bless!

  1. Lady Virtuous,

I love this post. I also want to add that Jesus died, resurrected and went away so that He can send the comforter (The Holy Ghost). Because it will be that same quicking Spirit that will raise us up when he returns (the rapture).

I am so glad he came to save a sinner such as I.

  2. I think Jesus was trying to show us that the same way that he died on the cross and sacrifice himself for us. We should do the same for him. We should sacrifice this "flesh" and surrender our lives to God so that he can have the full control of our lives.

  3. Maybe Jesus was trying to show us that there will be times in our lives when we have to suffer to allow certain prophecies to be fulfilled in our lives. It was prophesied in the Old Testament that the savior is going to come and die for us and fulfilled the prophecy.

  4. Jesus said, I have come that you might have life and life more abundantly. Jeuse died not only so that we could ccmmune with God but also that we could live as Adam did. Adam had daily communion with God and had everything he needed and desired (abundant life). God wanted things back the way they were before sin came; therefore, Jesus, the only perfect sacrifice, wanted to please His father and gave His life a ransom for many. God is a perfect God and there is no flaw or failure in Him. In other words, Jesus paid the price of the cross so that we could be free from everything not like God. Death, sickness, diseases, infirmity, distress, hopelessness, hatred, envy, malious, etc... These are just only a few more reasons why He died.
