Today’s daily verse is Titus 2: 11-12, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world” (KJV). This is a very powerful verse but also a hard one for many to follow. Denying ungodliness is refusing to do or be a part of anything that is not of God. Many people today like to be half and half with God. We serve him one day and the next we want to run after the things of the world. We hold on to things that we know are wrong and is against the will of God but for self-fish reasons or fear we continue to hold on to them. But the word of God is telling us to get rid of those “ungodly” things in our life so that we can live a sober and righteous life before Him.
The second thing we should deny is worldly lust. These are things that we crave to have or be a part of in this world. It can be anything in this world that we believe is more important than our spiritual salvation. It can be preoccupation with ideas, programs, activities, and anything else that is centered on what the world is offering to us. Going deeper the Bible talks about the lust of the flesh (what is done with the body), lust of the eyes (what is done in the mind, since the eyes are gateway to the mind), and pride of life (what is done with the will). When you give your attention to worldly things, lust will begin to contaminate your life. There is no end to the desires of the flesh. If you have allowed yourself to slip into a lustful lifestyle, the only way out is thought God. If you refuse to submit to God you will only get deeper in your lust which in the end can bring destruction to your life. One thing I always notice about individuals who are have a “lustful” lifestyle is that they are never satisfied they always want more or want better than what they currently have. This sort of mentally has ruined my families and lives. Why would people run after things that only bring temporal satisfaction when God is offering them life abundantly that will bring the complete satisfaction they are looking for? The reason is that many are deceived by the “beauty” and “fakeness” of this world. As Christians we have to be careful not to be to deceived by these things and maintain focus on the things of God.
Titus 2: 11-12 is an instruction for us to follow to be prepared for the second coming of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Unless we learn to deny ungodliness and worldly lust we will not be able to hear “well done” from our Lord. We cannot serve two masters we have to choose today who we will serve. As the New Year begins start it off by making the right choice and live a life that is pleasing to the Lord.
